Brisbane based composer and saxophonist John Babbage and Shaun Fogarty are presenting a special performance at East Hall, 111 East St, Rockhampton, this Saturday night (14th February 2026) commencing at 7.30pm.
Those who have attended the RYO inc. Creative Music Workshops presented by Topology Music and RYO Inc. will know John Babbage the leader of the Topology team.
Shaun is our music director for RYO Jazz Ensemble and the professional Rockhampton Big Band and an outstanding musician and composer.
This will be quite the unique and rare performance so don't miss out!

Shaun Fogarty
Having completed his Bachelor of Music at the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music in Classical Saxophone Performance (2013), Shaun soon established himself as a professional musician and educator.
He has worked with leading figures in the contemporary classical world such as Claude Delangle (France), Philippe Geiss (France), and composer George Dreyfus (Australia). An experienced improviser, he has collaborated with Tobias Delius (Netherlands), Ronny Ferella (Australia), Scott McConnachie (Australia), and many local groups across Australia, performing in styles from folk and chamber music to jazz, afrobeat, and fully improvised music.
John Babbage
A founding member and Artistic Director of Topology, John studied saxophone at the Queensland Conservatorium of Music, graduating with a Diploma in Jazz in 1987. He has been performing and teaching for over 30 years, has toured Australia, Europe, the US, Canada, India, Singapore and Indonesia, released 16 albums by Australian and international composers, and his compositions have been played on radio and television worldwide. Babbage is a sought-after cross art form composer with commissions for works such as R&J (Expressions Dance Company), Argus (Dead Puppet Society) and Ocean’s Skin (Heidi Duckler Dance Theatre, USA). He has recorded and performed with the above groups as well as Terry Riley (USA), the Brodsky Quartet (UK), Abhinaya Theatre Company (India), Kate Miller-Heidke, Electric Fields, Megan Washington, the Kransky Sisters, Christine Anu, Trichotomy, TaikOz, William Barton, Grant Collins and many more. John is also a driving force in Topology’s Creative Academy and Growing Creative Communities programs and is actively sought after by teachers around the country to deliver improvisation and composition workshops.
His work for Topology has brought him to hundreds of communities in regional Queensland, plus the Northern Territory, New South Wales and Victoria.
On the 1st of March, Shaun Fogarty will host a free workshop, 'Attuning to Your Soundscape', that will explore sounds that shape our everyday lives, reconnecting with your sound environment, developing techniques for deep listening, critical listening, and environmental awareness to sound pollution.
