Annual Music Bursaries
Description of Award
The Rockhampton Youth Orchestra Inc (RYO Inc.) Annual Young Musician Bursaries are designed to recognise and support young musicians who have been active members of the Youth Orchestra throughout the award year.
Awards Presented Annually
RYO Inc. presents three awards at the end-of-year “The Classics Return” concert:
The RYO Inc. $1,000 Bursary: Includes a perpetual trophy & presentation plaque.
The Helene Jones Trust $500 Bursary: Includes a perpetual trophy & presentation plaque.
The RYO Inc. $200 Incoraggiamento Award: Includes a presentation plaque.
Selection Criteria
Eligible young orchestral musicians are evaluated based on:
Demonstrated and observable musical development across the year.
Preparation for rehearsals and performances.
Consistent attendance at rehearsals and performances throughout the award year.
Active and enthusiastic participation during Youth Orchestra rehearsals and performances.
Attentiveness to instruction/direction given by conductors.
Interaction with, encouragement, and guidance to fellow Youth Orchestra members.
To qualify for these bursaries, recipients must commit to remaining an active member of the Youth Orchestra for the following calendar year.
Conditions
Bursary recipients are expected to continue as active musical members of Youth Orchestra for the calendar year following the award. The bursary can be used for:
Payment of music tuition fees.
Purchase of music.
Purchase of a musical instrument.
Registration fees for musical development camps and/or workshops.
RYO Inc. will reimburse the recipients up to the value of their Bursary for their music development expenses within 12 months from the date of receiving the bursary.
